Crossroads Information

Crossroads is published four times a year –Winter, Spring, Summer, and Fall. We publish case studies, family histories, Utah history, articles on genealogical methodology and technology, how-to articles, news items, and book reviews. The Editorial Process

You can contact our editor (eva@blindhopes.com) with article ideas and pitches at any time. The editor will provide you with submission deadlines and space availability for upcoming issues. The issue that articles publish in is at the editor’s discretion. Once your article is accepted for publishing, you will receive a digital contract. Every author will get two copies of the publication mailed to you. If you do not have an article idea, but would like to write, please contact our editor for a topic assignment.

Submission Requirements

  • Feature articles should be between 1,500 and 2,500 words. Smaller articles should be at least 500 words.
  • Completed articles, along with your bio, headshot, photos, and supporting charts, tables, maps, or graphics, can be uploaded at the submission link above. Please have all materials completed at the time of your submission. The style guide contains all requirements and suggested guidelines.

Copyright Information

Authors retain copyright over the published article and may use the article after six months from the publication date. A citation to Crossroads is requested with each subsequent publication of the article.

Publication Deadlines

The following deadlines are for information only. Articles should not be held until any of the deadlines below. Articles should be submitted as quickly as they are ready so the editing process may begin. The length of time between article receipt and publication is at the editor’s discretion. The editor will schedule articles submitted according to topic and need.

  • Winter Issue: Editorial Submissions by October 1st
  • Spring Issue: Editorial Submissions by January 1st
  • Summer Issue: Editorial Submissions by April 1st
  • Fall Issue: Editorial Submissions by July 1st

Within Your Text

  • Sources should be cited for any fact that is not public knowledge. As long as all information needed to find and evaluate the source is included, the format is flexible. Editors may reformat citations to meet Evidence Explained standards.
  • Sources should be cited using footnotes.
  • Dates are placed in day/month/year format, e.g., 2 December 1802.
  • Abbreviations of common elements are used; please do not abbreviated “county” or the months of the year.
  • Quotes should be clearly marked and cited.
  • Images should be titled and cited.
